Although many of those who stop by The Boat Yard are en-route to Glasgow or Ayrshire, there’s plenty to do in-and-around Lochwinnoch – especially if you’re a lover of outdoor activities and wildlife!
This nature reserve, less than one mile away from us here at The Boat Yard, is a real treat for nature enthusiasts, big and small. Enjoy a woodland walk, or hideout in a ‘hide’ to witness birds, big and small, in their natural wetland habitat. During spring and summer months, bug-spotting and pond-dipping activities for children are coordinated from the reserve’s visitor centre – phone ahead or visit their website to find out about upcoming events.
Lochwinnoch is proud to be home to two sites contained within Clyde Muirsheil Regional Park, Scotland’s largest regional park spanning 108 square miles.
Offering family friendly events throughout the year, Castle Semple Country Park is a great place to visit for scenic walks and wildlife spotting. However, Castle Semple’s highly qualified Outdoor Activity Team is exemplary, at hand to help you master anything from powerboating to archery. It’s the ideal place to visit to work up an appetite before visiting The Boat Yard!
Muirsheil is the park for you if you’re an avid walker or hiker – it’s located high on the hills of Renfrewshire, only a 5 mile hike away from The Boat Yard. The wonderful scenery spans heather hills, to disused mines, volcanic plugs and waterfall nature trails.
It’s easiest to get to The Boat Yard by car or train. Would you believe we’re under a ten minute drive from Glasgow Airport!
